Steve Meurer - Conductor
John Hilmer studied Music Education at Quincy, College, Western Illinois University, University of North Texas, University of Texas at Austin, and Texas A & I. He was the recipient of the Indiana Music Educators Outstanding Music Educator Award, the Lilly Teacher Creativity Grant, and Who’s Your Hero
He is a member, and Past-President of Phi Beta Mu Gamma Chapter, an honorary fraternity of
Band Directors. He also served on the staff of the Indiana Ambassadors of Music European Tours for many years.
Hilmer’s 37 year career as Band Director included teaching experience in Iowa, Texas, and Indiana. He was formerly the Director of Bands and Performing Arts Dept. Chair at Warren Central,
Adjunct Professor at Jordan College of Music, Director of the Indianapolis Municipal Band and Associate Conductor of the Indianapolis Symphonic Band.
Since retirement John has served as Tour Director for Music Travel Consultants, assisting school music organizations on trips throughout the US, Italy, and China.
Steve Meurer is the Assistant Director of the Indianapolis Symphonic Band and a member of the ISB trombone section.
He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in music education from Indiana State University.
Steve has an extensive background as a public school music educator, having served as Director of Bands at Western Boone Jr. Sr. High School, Terre Haute South Vigo High School, Lawrence Central High School, and Craig Middle School.
Steve has been the orchestra director at Lawrence Central and Fishers High Schools, and Key Learning Community in IPS.
He is currently the music director at Legacy Bible Church in Noblesville.
