Joe Poio



     

Joe Poio received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music Education from Butler University.  He served as Director of Bands and Music Department Chairman for the Noblesville School Corporation for nine years, Director of Bands for Pendleton Heights High School for eight years and instrumental music director for the Delaware Community School Corporation for 18 years.  In 2006, Mr. Poio was named Director of Bands of the six- time Indiana summer circuit championship marching band at Muncie Southside High School.  Concert organizations under Mr. Poio's direction have received over 75 First Division Gold ratings at Indiana State School Music Association Festivals.

Mr. Poio works as an adjudicator for the Indiana State School Music Association’s solo & ensemble contests, concert organization contests, and state concert band qualifications contests.  He is also contest manager for ISSMA District and Regional marching band events.  Joe has twice conducted the symphonic band for the Ball State University Mid-America Band Clinic and served as interim director of the Butler University Symphonic Band.  He was coordinator of the Indiana State Fair Band Day Contest for 18 years.  He is a member of the Central States Judges Association, and has judged marching band events in Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Illinois, Kentucky, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.

Joe was Principal Clarinetist with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra for eleven years, and performed a double concerto for clarinets and orchestra with David Bellman of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.  He has played in back-up orchestras for the Disney Symphonic Fantasy and the Moody Blues.  He served on the Indiana State School Music Association Board of Directors for 12 years, and is conductor of the Indianapolis Symphonic Band, a position he has held since 1998.  Mr. Poio is a member and past president of the Indiana chapter of the international conductors’ fraternity, Phi Beta Mu.

           Steve Meurer

Steve Meurer is the Assistant Director of the Indianapolis Symphonic Band and a member of the ISB trombone section.

He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in music education from Indiana State University.

Steve has an extensive background as a public school music educator, having served as Director of Bands at Western Boone Jr. Sr. High School, Terre Haute South Vigo High School, Lawrence Central High School, and Craig Middle School.

Steve has been the orchestra director at Lawrence Central and Fishers High Schools, and Key Learning Community in IPS.

He is currently the music director at Legacy Bible Church in Noblesville.

Barton Rogers Big Band
Jane Poio




Jane Dobson Poio
is the leader of The Barton Rogers Big Band. Jane is a longtime member of the sax section of Barton Rogers Big Band as well as a 31 year member of the Indianapolis Symphonic Band in the clarinet section. Her jazz experience includes 20 years with the New Ventures Jazz Band in Indianapolis, the Normal City Music Company in Muncie, and jazz studies with Dr. John Spicknall at Indiana State University. In addition, Jane is an adjudicator for solo and jazz music contests and has performed in the past with the Carmel Symphony and with theater musical productions. Jane is a music teacher with the Indianapolis Public Schools.
